We love things that are beautiful, practical, and that help us express ourselves and be even more creative. If one thing could do all of this, well, that thing might be Chalk Paint! Yes Chalkboards have moved out of the classroom and into any room you want. A calendar for your home office, an entryway note area, a kitchen grocery list spot, or a place just to write love notes for family, a chalkboard wall can be all of these things.
Moving beyond the walls, adding a chalk surface to storage containers is a great idea for the kitchen or home office.
Store-bought formulas come in traditional green and black. You can also choose between spray or brush-on paint, depending on your project needs.
In my kitchen we played mad scientist and created a chalk + magnetic wall. Yes, magnetic! And we love it! You can find the magnetic paint, right next to the chalk paint at any home improvement store. The magnetic paint goes on first, followed by about two coats of chalk paint. A VERY important tip for the magnetic paint: The box said 3-4 coats, but we did 7 and I think I still need a couple more layers! Since the paint has to dry anyway, you can test its magnetic hold between coats. Remember though, if you’re adding the chalk paint or any other paint on top, those additional coats will weaken the magnetic hold.
